No Shi\'a-Sunni split here

A little over one week has passed since the bombing of an important Shi\'a shrine in Iraq and reprisal killings. But while the violence overseas threatens to erupt into a civil war, local Shi\'a and Sunni leaders are hoping that their efforts to come together since the attack produce lasting changes. Dr. Muneer Fareed, Professor of Islamic Studies at Wayne State University , challenged the community to overcome the sectarianism among themselves. "I challenge you today to walk down the streets of Detroit and find one mosque that does not have a sectarian or ethnic identification," he said, adding that it was incumbent upon the community to get beyond that.
